Last week was a tough week for the Poortinga household. It started with me having to drop Maree off at daycare. I now feel every working mom's pain, because it was SO hard to leave her in a room full of babies I didn't know, babies who were crying, drooling, etc... I cried myself as I left. For those who don't know, I was offered a part time position for the next 6 weeks at my former school to write curriculum. Because it was so last minute, they are definitely making it worth my while financially, but that doesn't make leaving her two days a week any easier. I will say that now that I've had some time to adjust to this, the balance of working and staying home is a nice mental break/change. Ironically, I feel like my "working day" is easier than my "non-working day" - being a stay at home mom is definitely a job! Granted, it's a job that I love :)
On the heels of the daycare drop off day, came Maree's ear surgery. She has been suffering from severe reflux since she was 2 weeks old (milk comes out her nose everyday - and now that she's eating "food" she's even had carrots, avocado, etc come out her nose too - poor girl!!) Anyway, since she has continual fluid in that canal, it just hangs out behind her ears and every two weeks she gets an ear infection! After her 5th one, we were sent to a specialist and from there we made the decision to get tubes. Best. Decision.Ever. The surgery took 7 minutes, and she woke up like nothing happened! (Granted, I was a nervous wreck) Then that very day she started crawling, and even gave me a 2 hour nap! Since the surgery, she does seem like a much happier girl.

| Pre-surgery - this was a hard hour because we weren't allowed to feed her |
 |
| Cuddling my baby girl after the surgery - as you can see, she's doing just fine! |
 |
| Finally napping for more than 20 minutes!! |
 |
| A few days later - we had to try on her tutu again - I wanted to get one of her crawling in it, but it didn't happen |
Poor little girl....I am glad that you made the decision to get the tubes. I will be interested if you hear her babbling more, now that sound isn't muffled.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you are wearing the UA jacket!
