Turning 30

Because I'm 8 months pregnant, I really wasn't expecting much of a birthday - I figured we'd celebrate once baby girl #2 made an appearance... but little did I know that Marc had been busy planning a birthday I will never forget!!

On Friday, March 29, we went to my annual birthday dinner with Marc's family (which is always amazing and so generous of them to do).... but what I was NOT expecting, was for my best friend Sara, to magically appear during dinner!!!! The only time I've ever been this surprised was when Marc flew into Kansas City to propose!! I was super emotional that she made a 5 hour flight to see me - what an amazing friend!  Here are a few pictures from that night:

What a fun night!!

SOOO surprised Sara showed up!!!

On Saturday, March 30, I woke up to more surprises!  Marc arranged for Sara and I to have a spa day, yes, a SPA DAY - I've never had one - and wow was it amazing!!! We had massages, pedicures, and got to lounge by the pool for the day... it's the first time in 18 months that I've been away from Maree for such an extended period of time, and while I love her, it was heaven to have a break!  That night, more celebrating was to come as we met some of our good friends at a nice restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale & we all had so much fun-- yes, I'm pretty sure everyone drank double in honor of me NOT being able to drink.

I feel so absolutely blessed to have such a loving husband who planned this amazingly memorable 30th birthday for me... and for such a great friend, Sara, who flew in from Maryland, to make my weekend really special

So it hardly seems possible that I've left my 20s behind, but I can't say that I'm that sad about it either (I really thought that I would be)!!!  Maybe I'm not that worked up about it because I really feel like I wouldn't have changed anything in the last 10 years - I have a few things that stand out:

  • Getting engaged/getting married - meeting Marc was such a drastic turning point in my life - he is so perfect for me and I couldn't ask for a more amazing husband/father
  • Having baby Maree -  I never knew it would be possible to have such unconditional love for such a little person, but boy do I love my Maree.
  • London study abroad trip - I feel so lucky to have had international experience & it is amazing how often I find myself thinking back to when I lived in London
  • Coaching the Pella dance team & winning Nationals - coaching was such a rewarding experience & I miss it still (I can even still do the majority of the dances in my head!!)
  • Teaching in Pella, Cedar Rapids, & Arizona - I loved my students & I know without a doubt, that I was 100% in the right career for me (Aside from being a mom!!)
  • All of the memories from college - the Leu Crew!

  1. This was so fun to read! Thank you for sharing. I especially liked reading the highlights of your 20s. Yes, they were wonderful years and you made a lot of critical, life-altering choices. I am so glad you found love and happiness with Marc. He is such a good man. And dear Maree…………
