Miss Maree Three and a Half!
I'm not even sure what words to use to describe you! Fierce, determined, charming, sensitive, compassionate, and competitive are all words that come to mind! Every time you come across a challenge you want to figure out how to solve it yourself. Last night you found a balloon and insisted on blowing it up yourself. We tried to help, because you were getting so frustrated, but after 20 minutes of trying, you came to me and told me you couldn't do it and needed help. Sometimes I forget that you are only 3… and this world is a big place full of things you're still learning… and I need to let you try before jumping in.
You are also so compassionate. Recently, cousin Penny visited and while she was here, we learned her dad had had several heart attacks. When it was time for her to leave, we were all emotional about her flying to Costa Rica because we didn't know how much time her dad had left. Little Maree, you watched this whole exchange of hugs, and must have felt the somber tone, because you started crying too. You pick up on others emotions very well (except your sisters)…. and you often tell them to be happy.
Competitive. Wow, you sure have taken this to a new level recently! At school there are daily designated line leaders…. but in your world, you are the line leader EVERYWHERE. We can't walk out of the house, down the hall way, to the garage, to the bathroom, to the park, etc. without you wanting to be just slightly ahead as the "Wine Weader" You also have this competitive "I win" thing going on. If I get you out of your car seat first, serve you food first, brush your teeth first… you insist on letting Ellie know that you've won. I try to tell you that it's ok if others win too. But so far, you aren't liking when that happens AT ALL.
Lastly my Maree, you are charming!! You have so many endearing things that you say and do. Recently there was a snake in our garage (a baby one) and our landscaping guy (who you call 'man') happened to be at the house and took care of getting it out. You ran right into his arms after this and thanked 'man' profusely. You charmed him on the spot. I also took you to get your toes painted recently, and the girl doing your toes had black hair which I'm not sure you've even seen before. You kept petting her head and telling her that she was beautiful. She couldn't stop smiling after that. My favorite compassionate story about you, though, is when Ellie accidentally slammed my hand in the door. My eyes immediately started to tear up/yelled Ouch. You were so concerned about me that you ran to find daddy to get him to come help me. So sweet.
Here are some funny things you've been saying or doing lately:
Me: Whats's your name
Maree: "Maree Michelle Poortinka"
Me: What's your sister's name
Maree: "Ellie"
Me: What's her whole name?
Maree: *Thinking*… "Ellie Muffin!
You know the days of the week in order, but you often ask "What time is it?" We tell you it's 4:00. You ask again, No, what TIME is it. I tell you it's Tuesday at 4:00…. what you're really asking is what is on the agenda for the day… but it is funny to see how your mind is thinking about things
You can count to 20.
You can recognize probably 3/4 of the alphabet now (a post about that is coming soon)
If you smell something bad you immediately say 1 of 2 things: "You smell dat??" or "You poop??"
If you can't figure something out, or get frustrated with something you're not allowed to do, you often say "Oh, man!" or "Oh, man! Not again!"
Lately, one of your favorite things to say for an ouchie, a tummy ache, hiccups, etc. is: "I'm sick. I need to go to doctor"
